Where a listing shows battery health, it is the battery's remaining capacity compared with when it was new. A battery at 85% holds about 85% of the charge it originally could.
How to read it
General guidance: lithium-ion batteries wear with charge cycles and age. Many people start to notice shorter runtimes once capacity drops below about 80%. A lower percentage can still be a good buy if you mostly use the device plugged in, or if the price reflects it.
- Shown as a percentage — the capacity measured for that unit.
- "New battery" — the listing notes the battery was replaced.
- A note instead of a number — for example when a device can't report health; read the note.
Battery health and the warranty
Disclosed consumable wear — including battery health shown on the listing — is not normally covered by a TechVerge warranty. Check the battery figure before you buy rather than after. See the warranty terms.
Battery safety
A swollen, punctured, burned, leaking, or exposed lithium battery should not go in household trash or be sent with an ordinary shipping label. If you are selling or recycling a device with a damaged battery, choose "contact me about safe handling" in the sell form or contact TechVerge first.
