Every used device TechVerge lists carries one of four condition grades. The grade describes how the device looks and whether it is fully functional — and it is checked against the unit's own test results before the listing can be saved.
The four grades
- Grade A · Excellent
- Excellent used condition with minimal visible wear. Fully functional, cleaned and tested.
- Grade B · Good
- Normal cosmetic wear for its age. Fully functional, cleaned and tested.
- Grade C · Fair
- Heavy cosmetic wear. Functional except where a fault is listed. The lower price reflects the condition.
- Parts / Repair · Not working
- Not fully functional and sold for parts or repair. The known faults are listed. Do not buy it expecting a working device.
How a test result affects the grade
Grades A and B mean fully functional. TechVerge's listing system will not save a Grade A or B device if any check in its test report is marked faulty — the grade has to come down to C or Parts / Repair, or the result has to be corrected.
Any failed check must also be written down under Known faults, and a Parts / Repair listing cannot be saved without saying what is wrong with it. So if a listing has no known faults, none were recorded for that unit.
Used, not "certified refurbished"
TechVerge sells used devices as used. Listings are not described as "certified refurbished", because that is a claim with program qualifications behind it.
What the grade means for returns and warranty
- Cosmetic wear shown or described in the listing is not a defect.
- Parts / Repair, as-is, clearance, and final-sale items are returnable only when required by law or when the item materially differs from its listing.
- Any warranty is stated on the listing, order confirmation, or repair authorization. Cosmetic wear already disclosed is not normally covered.
